Top Political Advisor Calls for Consolidated Patriotic United Front

Top political advisor Wang Yang on September 28 called for further development and consolidation of the broadest possible patriotic united front.

Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remarks when addressing a reception held on September 28 to mark the National Day that falls on October 1.

The Chinese nation has achieved a tremendous transformation as it has stood up, grown rich and is becoming strong, which is a result of the courage, hard work and successes in overcoming difficulties of Chinese people of all ethnic groups, united and led by the CPC, as well as joint efforts made by all the sons and daughters of the Chinese nation at home and abroad, according to Wang.

He stressed to fully and faithfully implement the principle of "one country, two systems" and act in strict compliance with China's Constitution and the basic laws of Hong Kong and Macao, as well as support the two special administrative regions in integrating their own development into the overall development of the country.

It is the desire of the people to promote the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations and advance the process toward the peaceful reunification of China, Wang said.

"We should firmly uphold the 1992 Consensus, oppose 'Taiwan independence,' and hold the conviction that we are all of the same family," he said, demanding measures implemented to strengthen the cross-Straits economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation.

He also promised that the CPC's policies regarding overseas Chinese affairs will be fully implemented and dedicated services of all types will be provided to overseas Chinese.

Yang Jiechi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, hosted the reception, which was attended by more than 2,800 representatives from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas Chinese communities.

The reception was organized by the General Office of the CPPCC National Committee, the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.
